What Aiken County actually asks us
A great many Aiken County residents earn in Georgia and live in South Carolina, so the normal case here is two state returns and a credit that only works if they are prepared together and in the right order.
Aiken County is a mid-sized county in the Midlands, and the work reflects that rather than a standard menu: returns and planning for the people and businesses that are actually here, with bookkeeping where the books are the thing holding the return back.

If you are outside those, the county line is what matters rather than the town — anywhere in Aiken County is the same engagement.
Property tax, in one paragraph
South Carolina assesses an owner-occupied legal residence at 4% of value and most other real property at 6%. The gap is wide, the 4% ratio is not automatic, and it has to be applied for on the property that qualifies.
South Carolina also exempts the first $50,000 of a legal residence’s fair market value from property tax for owners aged 65 or over, totally and permanently disabled, or legally blind. It is applied for with the county auditor rather than on the income tax return, and it is a separate thing from the 4% ratio — the two are routinely confused for one another.
How this works at a distance
The office is in Charleston. Documents move through the secure portal rather than email, review happens by video, and we will say plainly when something needs someone local to Aiken — a county assessor appeal being the obvious case — or a specialist rather than a generalist.
