What Greenville County actually asks us
Inbound assignments and foreign pensions come up here more than anywhere outside Charleston, which is why the international guides are worth reading alongside this page.
Greenville County is one of the state’s larger counties in the Upstate, and the work reflects that rather than a standard menu: returns and planning for the people and businesses that are actually here, with bookkeeping where the books are the thing holding the return back.

If you are outside those, the county line is what matters rather than the town — anywhere in Greenville County is the same engagement.
Property tax, in one paragraph
South Carolina assesses an owner-occupied legal residence at 4% of value and most other real property at 6%. The gap is wide, the 4% ratio is not automatic, and it has to be applied for on the property that qualifies.
South Carolina also exempts the first $50,000 of a legal residence’s fair market value from property tax for owners aged 65 or over, totally and permanently disabled, or legally blind. It is claimed through Greenville rather than on the income tax return, and it is a separate thing from the 4% ratio — the two are routinely confused for one another.
How this works at a distance
The office is in Charleston. Documents move through the secure portal rather than email, review happens by video, and we will say plainly when something needs someone local to Greenville — a county assessor appeal being the obvious case — or a specialist rather than a generalist.
