CPA & Tax Services in Horry County, SC

The Grand Strand gives Horry County the largest concentration of short-term rental and hospitality income in South Carolina, while the inland end around Loris and Aynor is still farming country. Haigler CPA Group works with individuals and business owners across the county — Conway, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Loris and Aynor — from the firm’s office on James Island in Charleston.

What Horry County actually asks us

Nightly-let property is the single most common reason people call: how many days it was rented, how many it was used personally, and whether accommodations tax sits on top of the income tax.

Horry County is one of the state’s larger counties in the Pee Dee, and the work reflects that rather than a standard menu: returns and planning for the people and businesses that are actually here, with bookkeeping where the books are the thing holding the return back.

If you are outside those, the county line is what matters rather than the town — anywhere in Horry County is the same engagement.

Property tax, in one paragraph

Because so much residential property in the county is a rental or a second home rather than someone’s legal residence, the 4% and 6% assessment split is the single biggest lever on a local property tax bill. The 4% legal-residence ratio is not automatic — it has to be applied for on the property that qualifies.

South Carolina also exempts the first $50,000 of a legal residence’s fair market value from property tax for owners aged 65 or over, totally and permanently disabled, or legally blind. It is applied for with the county auditor rather than on the income tax return, and it is a separate thing from the 4% ratio — the two are routinely confused for one another.

How this works at a distance

The office is in Charleston. Documents move through the secure portal rather than email, review happens by video, and we will say plainly when something needs someone local to Conway — a county assessor appeal being the obvious case — or a specialist rather than a generalist.
